Crews stick together!!!

Traditionally known by its 5-day ritual, Tihar is one of the important festivals celebrated by Nepalese people, not only in Nepal itself, but also all around the world. ‘Festival of Lights’ aka Tihar marks the end of the festive season. And with the end of the festive season, means the end of long holidays for youngsters like us. So, unfortunately for us, and fortunately for our elders, we return back to college. How happy would our parents be since we won’t be at home to irritate them all day after the colleges start, right? But, nevertheless, we are also youngsters, always creative and thinking of a way to every solution. So, gossips and talks surround our environment when we meet our friend after such a long vacation. And among those talks would be, “Did you guys go for deusi-bhailo program?” ‘Festival of Lights’ is widely popular among everyone, from old grandpas and grandmas to the very generation of youngsters for its tradition of deusi-bhailo programs. Deusi- bhailo pro...

Changa Chait..!!

Dashain is a unique festival not only because it holds the legend where Durga goddess emerges and kills the demon Mahishasura where good is the victor over evil, but is also popular among both children and adults for its charm of kite flying. Dashain is the perfect time for kite flying. Dashain is that time of the year where people have long holidays, so they can enjoy to their fullest. Dashain is observed for 15 days. Since this year’s Dashain ended very well for me, I would like to share some of my views and experiences on kite flying.  Kite flying is the most selected activity by the people for their to-dos list in Dashain. People are really seized by the idea of kite flying, adding that Dashain is the perfect time for kite flying and the weather is also on our favor. Surely, why wouldn’t people be seized by even the slightest idea of kite flying? I mean, just give a clear thought, we are so pulled towards the attraction of kites when watching them flying in the sky, w...

Nostalgic bygone days..!!!

Ola amigos, it has been a such a long time since I  have been writing. Today, I felt some goose bumps up my spine. I felt like I have been missing some big part of my life. And I realized soon enough that memories were haunting me every now and then, memories of my school days, memories of my friends and every single moments we had. Ahh, there lies the bygone days of my childhood or school days in the treasure chest waiting to be opened and retold someday. Fate has really brought us together my friends, our friendship will never end, rather will remain forever and ever till the last date. I remember the mischiefs we had done, so many times we got caught or the many times we did not. I remember all the pranks we played upon each other, whether it be our best friend or our enemy (lol... ). We never left anyone behind, we even used to play pranks upon our teacher like we used to mimic our teachers voice  and action while they were teaching or,writing on the board. Nobody wo...

10th July, 2013 Pt-3

So, this may be the last blog of the very interesting day on 10 th July, 2013. You guys remember about the last question, right?? What I had up my sleeves?? Well, I am going to reveal it now. The day was a very busy day indeed, first there was an orientation programme held at the Kamaladi Hall. And then there was a special event, our friend, Saugat’s Bratamanda which was indeed really interesting. And after that, last cards up my sleeve. And that last card is that there was another Bratamanda of my friend, Milan Lamsal who lived with me at the same building. He had completed his Bratamanda along with his older brother the very day. And, not to mention there was a party to all. I had reached home at 8 pm. And I really wanted to get to my room and get changed. But when I reached home, my friend called me and asked me to have food with him. I couldn’t just ignore him. So, I joined him with some of his friends, although I was full because I had ate my belly full at Saugat’s party. So, I...

10th July, 2013 Pt-2

You all must remember the last blog, right?? So, what is that special event that made all our friends to gather up at a certain place? You all must be thinking hard, right? But don’t worry. I am going to tell you about the event. It’s actually a very special day for our friend, Saugat Raj Shrestha. I will give you a hint; it was celebrated at a party palace. Any guesses??...... You all must be wandering it’s a birthday party. Well it’s not. In fact, it is a “ Bratamanda ” of our friend. Well, Bratamanda  is a special occasion for many Nepalese people. It is a custom and tradition that the person (referred to male) has to get his hair cut and should have a bald head. It is believed that a person who hasn’t completed their Bratamanda cannot marry, and if he has to marry then, there will be a Bratamanda held first, and then the person can marry his bride. So, parents, to avoid this problem, get their children to complete their Bratamanda at a young age, or at a suitable age. And pe...

10th July, 2013 Pt-1

Hello folks!!! Today, I got something interesting to share with you all. After my admission in the LIC, I was relieved for some time because, you know, some stress free environment from finding a good college. And I forgot to mention that the college pre-informed all the students about the orientation programme about Liverpool Int’l College. The orientation programme was held on 10 th July, 2013 at Kamaladi Hall, Kathmandu at sharp 1:00 pm. The college had distributed “gate-pass” to all the students. I also went to the college to collect the gate-pass with my friends. And, to let you know, you were not allowed to enter inside the hall without the gate-pass. So, we collected the gate-pass and waited anxiously for the orientation day. As we waited anxiously, the orientation day finally arrived. Some of our friends went to the programme ahead of us, so two of my friends went there along with me. We three were seated at the left-hand side upper corner of the low deck, whereas our oth...

Liverpool Int'l College

Hello folks...!! It has been such a long time since I haven't been active lately. Well, you all must be wandering what's the story, huh? Well, it's about my college. Since I have passed my SLC examination with a good percentage, now the biggest problem is to find a good college. I have been searching the best colleges and I tried and gave entrance exams in 3 colleges. Namely:  1) St. Xaviers College   2) National School of Science(NSS)  3) Liverpool Int'l College (LIC) And to sum up, I also checked which one of them is nearer. And apparently, LIC and St. Xaviers College were the ones which was nearer. They were located at Shankhamul and Maiti Devi's Height respectively. As for NSS , it was too far away for me. So, I had decided to join either LIC or St. Xaviers   College . But it depended on whether I pass my entrance exams or not. I had given my entrance exams in all three colleges on 2013 June 6, 7 & 8 respectively. The result came out shortly...

Kathmandu Teen's Writer

Hello!!!!To all the readers who take out little time of their tiring and busy life to read my blog. I hope the blog is satisfying and readable to all of you. I have not been able to write something new in the blog due to some problems.. Well, as the name itself suggests, “Kathmandu Teen” actually focuses in the teenagers of Kathmandu city like what they are interested in, what kind of field is popular among them, what they think about their life goal, et cetera. And I am giving my best in these topics. This blog may be readable and interesting not only to the teenagers but also to the elder peoples. I am Tong Man Thapa and I write everything in the blog, so I am officially the writer of the blog “Kathmandu Teen” . Like everyone, I have some hobbies like I like to listen to music, I like to play guitar with my friends, I also like to dance, travelling, sometimes hanging around with friends, et cetera. I used to dance in my schooldays and I have taken part in different competitions...

Mother's Day Special

If I had to define the term Mother then it would go like this, “Such a unique and greatest creation by Him and the greatest gifts to all mankind is Mother .” Mother is a friend in need, is an inspiration to their children, and also a philosopher. Mother’s love towards their child is so divine and pure that no other love can compete with Mother’s love. Mother’s Day is celebrated only once a year which falls on 9 th May. So, I would like to tell all the people that, in the very day, let your heart do the talking and speak it out. So, this very day, I would like to speak my heart out. Every mother sacrifices their own happiness to put their child’s happiness before anything else. I totally agree with this point. My mum has made many sacrifices just for the sake of my happiness. She has given me unconditional love which, I guess, I can never repay back. She has been there for me in every step of my life. She has supported me, helped me in every way she could. She has encouraged...

Visit to Mr. Gordon's House

My dad and I decided to meet Mr. Gordon. Mr. Gordon asked us if we were free Friday, 26 April, 2013 and if we could meet him at the same place Yuen Long Landmark Plaza at the Pizza Hut at 6:00 pm. But my dad had some assignments to complete. So, we decided to meet on Sunday, 28 April, 2013 at Mr. Gordon’s house at 6:00 pm and order pizza at his resident. My dad said, “I have some assignments to complete. So, you stay at your uncle’s house. After I finish my assignments then, we will go there.” And I agreed. Then, the whole day I was with my uncle. And at around 3:00 pm, my dad phoned me and said to meet him at the Central. So, I got ready and went to the Central. After that we went straight to Hung Shui Kiu at Mr. Gordon resident. When we reached there, my dad also showed me the hospital where I was born, “Tuen Mun Hospital”. I looked at the hospital for a while. Then, my dad called me and we kept on moving towards Mr. Gordon’s resident. At the middle of nowhere, my dad phoned M...

Trip with my aunt

It was the day before Tuesday, 23 April, 2013. When I told my dad that I would like to go out the next day, my dad said that he will be really busy the next day. Then, he said that he will phone my aunt as it’s her holiday. So, he phoned my aunt and asked her whether she was free or not and could take me out. She agreed and my dad asked her to have lunch together then from there he would go to his university and we would go out. Then the next day we had lunch together and my dad went to the university and me and my aunt decided to go for hiking to the top of Hong Kong Peak. We went to the Hong Kong Peak by a tram. While on the tram, my aunt showed me some pictures she took during her visit to different places. I knew that she was a graphic designer because my dad told about her. But I didn’t know that she was also a photographer. She said that it was her hobby to take photos. But, hats off to her skill of taking photo. So, I asked her whether she could teach some basics about ta...

Bidding Goodbye to the Residential College

Hong Kong Tuesday, 23 April, 2013 was the last day of my stay with my dad at the Residential College, Kennedy Town. My dad took permission from the authority of the College for stay at the College for 1 week. Usually, the Residential College doesn’t allow any outsiders to stay in the College. You have to be a permanent resident of the College. As my dad is a tutor, he requested the authority and I was given the permission to stay for 1 week, not more than that. I came to Hong Kong on Tuesday, 16 April, 2013. Since then I have been living with my dad in the Residential College. I had a very great time with my dad. We used to stay late at night playing chess. As he is a busy person, first he used to finish his assignment, then, we used to play chess. While he is doing his assignment sometimes I used to use internet in his I-pad, and sometimes I used to read books that my dad brought it from the library. And we used to sleep late at night at around 2:00 am. And I used to get up a...

Mr. Gordon Truscott

Image
Mr. Gordon is a friend of my dad. His full name is Mr. Gordon Truscott. They both used to teach English subject together in Pak Kau College. They were both good friends, I believe. Well, Mr. Gordon is a Canadian. He is 55 years old with a bald head at the front. Well, we can imagine how old he is… Also he speaks a lot. But, even though he speaks a lot his many talks are interesting. It was Friday, 19 April, 2013 in the morning when my dad said, “Today, we are going to meet one of my friend and you are going to come with me. I will introduce you with him.” And at the evening we went to Yuen Long Landmark plaza at the Pizza Hut where we met Mr. Gordon. When we went there, he was waiting for us in a corner table. We were escorted to his table by the staffs. We sat down together and I introduced myself to him and vice versa. Then we ordered some pizzas and some drinks. We started talking. Well, actually, he started talking and we were listening to him. He told us that he writes le...

Disneyland (Flights of Fantasy Parade) Part-3

Image
Well it was finally time for the Disney Parade (Flights of Fantasy Parade). After we finished watching other shows, we came to the garden where the Disney Flights of Fantasy Parade was going to be held. It could have taken place a little earlier if the rain had not poured. Well, we waited very long for the parade to begin. Finally, the parade began and we could see them from the other side of the garden. But they stopped at the middle and they were taking a lot of time. In this context, Mr. Gordon said, “I didn’t remember the parade taking so long to come.” Well we were feeling very tired. But we waited. And at last, the parade started moving. And we could see different Disney’s character joining the parade. First was Dumbo the Elephant with some people. And behind them was a marching band playing different types of instrument. After them, some performers were seen performing some acts. And following them was a big ship where Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Pluto ...

A Memorable Trip to the Disneyland Of Hong Kong Part-2

After the trip to the Tarzan’s Island, Mr. Gordon and I went to watch the “Festival of The Lion King” at the Adventureland but we were late and were told to attend it at next time period. So, we went to watch the “Stitch Encounter” at the Tomorrowland. Well, guess what?? The staff member said that the show was at the Cantonese language and they asked us to attend the show after 30 minutes. So, Mr. Gordon and I decided to roam around for a while. While roaming around the Resort, we came across three performers. I had noticed them beforehand also. They had been carrying dustbin cans around for quite some time. And those three persons started to perform using the dustbin cans. Well, they were really entertaining the people in their own way. After the performance it was nearly time for the show “Stitch Encounter”. So, we went to the Tomorrowland to watch the “Stitch Encounter” and finally we were in after a long and boring queue. Before we got in we were informed that drinking an...

A Memorable Trip to the Disneyland Of Hong Kong Part-1

Image
Inside look of the MTR I went to visit the Disneyland of Hong Kong with my dad’s friend Mr. Gordon on Saturday April 20, 2013. It was a really different experience for me. Besides, I had a really good time with Mr. Gordon. Also, the Disneyland of Hong Kong is really a worth visiting place. We can reach there by either bus or MTR. But I think the fastest way to get there will be by taking an MTR. If we take an MTR then we will have to change another MTR to the Disneyland Resort. After we got to the Resort, Mr. Gordon took me to the Tomorrowland where we went to the Space Mountain where I rode a rollercoaster. It was a thrilling high-speed journey. The rollercoaster of the Space Mountain was based on the Disney’s character Buzz Lightyear. Then we went to the Astro Blaster based on Buzz Lightyear. There I& Mr. Gordon went on a journey to save the universe from the invasion of the evil emperor Zurg where I beat Mr. Gordon with 304-292. J After that we went...
