Sneak Peek Inside the Kitchen

| Ho-Ho-Ho. Knock Knock?! |
We all know
that Christmas is around the corner.... wait, am I wrong? It's not around the
corner, it just came to the front and knocked on the door, right?
Anyhow,
Christmas is all about Santa and milk-and-cookies. And restaurants. It's that
time of the year where you have to reserve the seats four weeks earlier if you
want to sit for a satisfying meal in a posh restaurant. Yep, one month earlier,
you read that right. I guess I don't have to tell anything more, 'cause you are
familiar with it.
As I was
saying, the restaurants will be busy all day and night. The dish has to be
served perfectly because that's what the customers expect after investing their
time and money in a posh restaurant.
Now, just
for a second, imagine the kitchen of a restaurant you are going to visit.
Slippery and wet floor, unwashed dish in a corner awaiting its dishwasher,
staffs drenched in sweat and apron covered in grease, frying pan burning atop
the stoves? Or, washed dishes, staff and chef working coherently and calmly, stations
all neat and tidy, frying pans burning atop the stoves but in an artistic way? You
may be thinking either one of them. I presume it's the latter you were
thinking. Pretty much sums up the busy hour inside the kitchen, eh? But, let me
enlighten(as in saying in a spiritual way) you a little bit, it's the sum of
both the cases.
Even in the
busiest hour, the staff always look for a soft-spot. The staff at the dessert
station making brownie cracks up a joke about the young lad over at the
Hot-session(cooking station, if said in a simple way). The salad station's
staff giving the finishing touch adds dressing on top of the Spinach Salad(do
customer fantasize over Popeye the Sailor when ordering this dish? XD) and on top
of the joke. The young lad, new to the kitchen and staff, feels embarrassed and
nearly mixes the wrong ingredients as the Head Chef stops him at just the right
moment.
The Head
Chef doesn't mind the gossips. He knows that his staff delivers a satisfying
dish and never lets any customer leave unhappy. The Head Chef keeps on doing
his work, i.e. give orders to the staff and the staff follows them to the
point.
Far at a
corner, the staff at the grill-session passes some pieces of squid he grilled
to other staff behind the Chef's back. Another staff from the hot-session takes
out two can of soda along with a bottle of wine. The bottle of wine being for the
food, and the soda for staffs to have with the pieces of squid.
Later, the young
lad watches in awe as everyone drinks from the decanter until he is offered
some. He hesitates, but drinks it, later realizing that it was water inside the
decanter. Now, everyone was staring at him. Momentarily, they burst out into a
wild laughter, but then the laughter faded away since everybody became aware of
the presence of Head Chef in the kitchen.
The busiest
hour were finally coming to an end as the mortar became empty and as the staff
turned on less stoves.
They have to
work on Christmas, too. So, why not imagine them like this, right?
I would like
to sincerely wish all the readers who take time from there busy schedule in
reading my post a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Cheers.
Till next
time. Ciao.
